Context

Disney’s My Disney Experience platform allows guests to personalize their park experience through preference settings tied to interests, entertainment, and dining.

These preferences influence:

• content surfaced to guests
• recommendations and communications
• personalized planning experiences across web and mobile

The preferences UI already existed, but required clarification, usability improvements, and structural refinement to better support guest understanding and engagement.

The Problem

From a UX perspective, the Preferences experience presented several challenges:

• Preference categories were not always self-explanatory
• The value of selecting preferences was unclear to many users
• Empty or “null” states (no preferences selected) lacked guidance
• Users could not easily understand how preferences affected their park experience
• Interaction patterns needed better clarity and consistency across sections
